Plagiarism Update
Well, I heard back from the Cambridge Medical Journal today.
If you've been following this blog for long you might remember a recent post entitled, I Was Plagiarized, where I described the unusual experience of finding words I had written-- almost verbatim-- in a journal article I was reading. Very odd.
I contacted the medical journal in question, which immediately removed the article from their website and said they would conduct a thorough investigation and get back to me.
Well, I heard back from the journal today and they agreed with me. In their words:
"We have finished our investigation and the Editorial Board’s
decision is that this is a clear case of plagiarism."
I suppose I should feel vindicated-- and for sure I am glad the Board acted appropriately and did the right thing-- but I don't feel happy to hear the outcome.
Honestly, I sort of feel sad. Sad for the author. Sad for the journal. Just sad.
I'm not sure what's going to happen to the author. It's in the Board's hands and I told them I'd support whatever they decided.
Crazy stuff.
